Drifter’s Code Lyrics

By Tim Oleson 2014

He drove into town in old van he called Smoke.

His hat brim turned down to others he rarely spoke

Some found it strange, such a young man riding the range.

He drove with no purpose, His faithful dog in tow.

His destination, wherever the wind would blow.

He’s a loner out on the road, living by the Drifters Code

Chorus: Mind your own business and keep your nose clean

Don’t cause stress and never be mean

Travel light and lean when you’re on the road.

That’s the Drifters Code

I first met him, He was playing for tips in a bar

He only looked up if someone put a bill in the jar

He’s a loner out on the road, living by the Drifters Code.

Chorus: Mind your own business and keep your nose clean

Don’t cause stress and never be mean

Travel light and lean when you’re on the road.

That’s the Drifters Code

I asked him his story, He chose to sing a song of his life.

He sang of two little children and a beautiful wife.

Well, the Lord took them home, that’s when he chose to roam.

We’ve all got our reasons for being out here.

Some run from love, some out of fear

Rear view mirrors never see the same road.

The longer I’m out here the harder it seems

To turn these nightmares back into dreams

I need rescued, I need somebody to hold

But it’s not in… the Drifters Code

Chorus: I mind my own business and I keep my nose clean

I don’t cause stress and I’m never mean

Travel light and lean when I’m on the road.

That’s the Drifters Code

Never travel twice down the same road.

That’s the Drifters Code.
